At Wet & Forget, we throw these words around a lot, but what do they mean?

Mould

Living with mould can be extremely dangerous, as it can trigger mild to severe respiratory illnesses. Recognising a mould infestation early can make removal easier and prevent risk.

Mould infestations form when a mould spore lands in a damp, humid environment, which is why we often find it in bathrooms and beside leaky windows.

So how do I identify mould? Though it can appear in many colours, mould tends to be black, green, or white. It Is often described as ‘fuzzy’ and has a ‘musty’ smell to it.

Our Indoor Sanitising Cleaner is a great solution for easily ridding your home of harmful mould. Shop here.

Lichen

Lichen appears mostly on outdoor surfaces and loves to cling to rocks and wood. All that lichen needs to survive is air and sunlight, making your exteriors the perfect environment for it to thrive.

The complex life form is made up of both alga and fungus. It is mostly pale green in colour and sits flat to a surface, though some growths may look ‘hairy’.

Fun fact: there are at least 18,000 species of lichens* and although most are completely harmless, some species, like ‘wolf lichen’, are very poisonous.

When lichen clings to roofs and high surfaces, reach it easily with Wet & Forget Rapid. Shop here.

Algae

Do you have a green patio, driveway, or path? It’s probably the presence of algae, and often lichen too. Algae does not discriminate and may show up all year round.

It is a photosynthetic organism which prefers to grow in shaded areas that are exposed to moisture and nutrients.

Algae forms in green deposits, usually following periods of rain.  An infestation can look like a cluster of green spots which vary in size.

Abolish unwanted algae without the need to scrub or jet-wash using our Outdoor Mould, Lichen & Algae remover. Shop here.
